King Kong
Senior Animator
Welcome to my Senior Animator Showreel 2014.
This is a selection of films on which I've worked...
Tools:
Maya
0:03-0:10
King Kong
Animator
In these Kong shots, I animated (100% key framed) Kong, as well as the cars he was throwing and hitting. Key framing real world dynamics saves a lot of time, and gives you absolute control over the shot.
Tools:
Maya
0:10-0:15
Godzilla
Senior Animator
I inherited this shot from someone else, and was forced to start from scratch. This shot took me from start to finish 7 days. I noticed that after I left someone had altered the back end of shot for final release, and this is reflected in the transition to film out.
Tools:
Maya 2014

Avatar
Animator / Previs Animator
For the next 3 shots I key-framed Jake and the banshee. There is NO motion capture involved with any of these shots, despite what Jim Cameron says.
I also set up the constrain rigs that attached Jake to the Banshee and the Banshee to the wall, as well as the creature flight rigs.
Tools:
Maya 2008
0:25-0:32
The Water Horse
Senior Animator
This was a Trailer shot. It was also originally two shots, that I had to combine into one hero shot. A tough shot to get right, but I was very happy with the end result. Full key frame on the creature and the boy, as well as camera anim. All environments and FX are full CG.
Tools:
Maya 2007
0:32-0:40
Eragon
Senior Animator
I animated the dragons fighting as well as set up the falling constrain rig. The hero dragon rider is a digi double, which becomes a live action card projection, and then goes back to a digi double.

Animator / Previs Animator
This was a very tough shot. Lots of small creative changes extended the production time to completion.
I animated all 9 hero Banshees. Jake & Natiri are mocap base with heavy anim massaging. The two BG Navi are mocap with minor clean up.
Tools:
Maya 2008
0:54-1:14
Godzilla
Senior Animator
This was a good run of shots where the Female Muto is getting really angry. I was responsible for animating the Creature as well as the boat. The transition to Open GL at the end is to better show the animation, as these are very, very dark shots.
Tools:
Maya 2014
1:16-1:23
The Water Horse
Senior Animator
Trailer shots. These are my favourite shots I did for the film as I not only animated them, but did the previz for this sequence too. See my 'previz reel' to see these shots.
Tools:
Maya 2007
1:23-1:28
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Freelance Animator
I key framed the Giant, the guard being thrown, the horse, the soldier getting hit and the horse on which he's sitting. This was a rush shot, that I managed to final on my first pass. Total time. 5 days.
Tools:
Maya 2008
1:28-1:30
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Freelance Animator
Key framed the Minotaur and the soldier getting smashed - 4 days start to final out!
- This shot had been tackled by 3 other other animators who struggled with the weight. This was a great shot to illustrate compression and impact.
Tools:
Maya 2008
1:30-1:37
King Kong
Animator
A full CG shot. I key framed the Ann Digi Double, Kong (foot) and the hero vines. Anns head was comped in from a live action plate. Notice how the hair goes the wrong way!
Tools:
Maya
1:37-1:45
Avatar
Animator / Previs Animator
This shot was used to represent Avatar in the 2009 Academy Awards for Best Special Effects!
I had a really good motion capture base from which to work with this shot. The characters jumping are fully key-framed as I had to blow away the mo-cap and re-choreograph the movements.
Tools:
Maya 2008
1:45-1:51
Avatar
Animator / Previs Animator
Trailer Shot. I key framed the Scorpion (chopper) and the 'dear' running in fright, as well as the 'birds' flying in front of the chopper. This is an entirely CG environment. Jake is really good motion capture base. I only had to do minor Anim clean up.
Tools:
Maya 2008
1:51-1:58
King Kong
Animator
I key framed (No Andy serkis) Kong, all of the attached ropes as well as a number of the digi doubles pulling on the ropes.
Tools:
Maya
1:59-2:05
The Water Horse
Senior Animator
Fully Key-framed animation on the Water-Horse, as well as digi double dog (body) - the head was a comped live plate.
Tools:
Maya 2007
2:05-2:18
The Water Horse
Senior Animator / Lead Previs Artist
I prevized the Stair chase sequence as well as did all the final animation for the creature and the dog. It was a very physically demanding series of shots with a lot, I mean a lot of interaction with the environment.
