Lighting TD
Used Katana to animate the interactive lighting to match the plate lighting on James Franco. Used Katana to layout fx fog elements into CG environments for best shot composition. Modified existing lookdev materials on CG attacking eyeballs in this shot to achieve per shot art direction. Customized sequence lighting rigs for hero lighting per shot.

The Walk
Lighting TD
Responsible for lighting and rendering of CG wire, Twin Towers, and DMPs of downtown Manhattan.
Worked with lighting pipeline TD and used Python to create Katana tools/macros for artists to automatically populate their scenes with the correct city blocks and procedural car animations visible in their shot’s camera. Helped with creation of sequence lighting templates.

Used Maya, Blizzard’s proprietary lighting tools and Redshift GPU Renderer for lighting and rendering, and used Nuke for multi-pass compositing of cg elements.

For all CG environments, broke apart heavy CG scenes into manageable sections in Katana. Used Katana to modify layout of environmental elements, like trees and bushes for best shot composition.

Customized sequence lighting rigs per shot for hero character lighting.

Used Katana and Arnold for lighting and rendering of CG characters and props, and used Nuke for compositing into live action plate. Customized sequence lighting rigs per shot for hero character lighting.
Took early trailer versions of this shot done by another artist to final state for the film.

Used Katana and Arnold to render full CG body and eye mask of hero character. Used Nuke to integrate CG into live action plates and blend live action head with full CG body and mask.

This was a technically challenging shot, at the time. Required problem solving to break up the elements into layers and to reduce the large amount of noise and render times to get clean fog renders in a reasonable amount of render farm time.

Worked closely under art direction of CG supervisors to lookdev materials on close-up hero shots of the wire since the established lookdev was designed only for medium to far shots.
