As a Principal Environment Artist on our first project, you will help curate the look and feel of our worlds and provide valuable insight into optimised and non-destructive workflows. You must be proficient with producing environments with intention and a clear visual identity while remaining flexible; working closely with level design to deliver procedurally generated spaces while maintaining a handcrafted appeal. You will need to be comfortable with exploring growing technologies such as Nanite and PCG systems and collaborating with tech art to test and define pipelines and workflows. You will also be responsible in guiding junior members of the team in the latest development techniques for triple-A development.
Responsibilities
- Create and take ownership of entire biomes, working collaboratively with the team to produce art from blockouts to final implementation in Unreal
- Work with the Art Director and Environment Art lead, identifying bottlenecks and proposing solutions
- Motivated and self-reliant, capable of working independently or as a team and quantifying work priorities
- Adaptable and agile, hosting a wide range of experience in 3D applications and showing a drive to keep updating their knowledge
- Mentor junior members of the team and work to cultivate talent and upskill where needed, and be able to express themselves clearly to different disciplines and bridge departments
- Collaborate with Tech Art and Engineering teams to make sure art assets maintain visual quality during gameplay
- Provide feedback to the wider teams and be an ambassador for new techniques and technologies
- Be an inspiring and welcoming team member helping to create something incredible together
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience at Senior level or higher
- At least one (1) shipped AAA Game
- Highly skilled in modeling/texturing in non-destructive workflows
- Highly proficient in unreal Editor 5
- High level of proficiency in understanding forms, shape language, and design of stylized art assets
- Strong portfolio showcasing preferably stylized environments, with the ability to create stunning worlds from start to finish
- Ability to work proactively and reactively when needed and collaborate with production for efficient asset tracking
- Ability to thrive and contribute effectively in a lean team environment, supporting outsourcing efforts where needed
- Professional experience with Maya, Substance Painter/ Designer, Zbrush, PBR, Unreal
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Unreal PCG, Nanite, and Lumen
- Experience with Procedural level generation
- Mentoring of team members and taking coordination responsibilities if required
- Traditional art skills and an eye for composition
