CG Supervisor

The CG Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all shot production elements of Visual Effects (VFX). This position is the key collaborator in defining and implementing creative and technical strategies for VFX production.
Job Functions
- Partner with team to evaluate and achieve technical and creative solutions for shot production.
- Build a holistic view from assets - character, hard surface and organic builds - to effects elements, animation and crowds, lighting and how compositing will be used.
- Advise production on asset task bidding, scheduling and load distribution.
- With production, ensure shot production artists have necessary task information at launch.
- Oversee crowds, CFX, FX and lighting in sequences and work closely with teams to ensure tasks are completed on schedule and quality standards are met.
- Follow progress of all tasks, facilitate their completion and determine when they are ready for publishing and/or additional reviews.
- Troubleshoot production problems and proactively work to minimize their impact.
- Participate in technology related meetings and advise on priorities, tool and pipeline development.
- Participate in cross-departmental meetings and reviews.
- Proactively seek industry innovations to streamline workflows and participate in testing and implementation.
- Oversee design and execution of documentation and training materials.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of CG Development experience using Maya, Houdini, Renderman and Katana on live-action TV or feature film productions.
- Strong communication skills; ability to convey complex ideas and creative vision in simple terms to creative partners.
- Strong understanding of overall production process, with emphasis on shot production for feature film pipelines.
- Experience with Linux (or another Unix) operating system required.
- Strong understanding of VFX pipeline with a focus on CG work, from on-set capture to compositing.
- Experience defining internal CG deliverables that will satisfy downstream disciplines required.
- Ability to translate concept art and storyreel into production descriptions
- Ability to successfully delegate, mentor and manage team members and projects under tight deadlines.
Zoic Studios is a visual effects company based in Culver City, California with a separate sister facility in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is a studio of creative artists, producers, and engineers.
Zoic Studios was founded by five partners in 2002 and began as a 15-person company working out of the Sunset Gower Studios lot. Their first project was creating visual effects for the action, western, science fiction television series Firefly, which featured their visual trademark shaky-cam effect.
In September 2002, they moved to their current 17,000-square-foot (1,600 m2) studio in Culver City, California, and the company has grown to house 150 employees. Zoic Studios currently boasts a delivery pipeline of 500 visual effects shots per week.
In 2006, Zoic founded Zoic BC, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Zoic BC can house up to an additional 100 employees at their facility in downtown Vancouver.
