I also help control our film scanner and our film recorder. We also have a Quantel Domino system. I was to try to help them understand motion control and what it can and cant do, and some of the ways you can manipulate each shot. This new system was installed in there new studio in Lisbon Portugal.

My job was as consultant for the purchase of a motion control camera rig and camera, advising why and how to buy motion control and for what purpose. The system is working in their studio, which is called Dubois, and operates on the outskirts of Paris.

    MPC is one of the largest and most productive post production facility in Europe. With Ursa telecine suites, digital editing suites, Harry editing suites, motion control studio, tape to film transfer and production departments. My position in this company was as head of the motion control studio, advising clients and staff how to accomplish visual effects, given time, and costs involved and working to production budgets. I was lighting cameraman when needed on small productions and model effect shots. I coordinated all the work from the studio to the laboratory making sure all aspects of our work were correct and usable in the digital domain.

    Geoff Axtell was a visual effect boutique, encompassing optical and camera feature effects work and commercial digital manipulation work in our Harry suite. My position as supervising cameraman was to control the effects camera, which was a fully motion controlled Aerial Image animation rig that could run at live action speed if required, in either 16 or 35mm film gauges. I was also the cameraman on the video motion control rig which was the first system connected to a Harry suite and a CAR room in London. I was liaison between the camera effects department and the laboratories and the CAR room. I was also client liaison, discussing effects work, lighting, costs, budgets, and time schedule for each production.

Also attached is a small art studio. My position as camera operator was to control all the animation and title effects work, to coordinate with optical and art departments to produce the titles, graphics and effects work. I was also involved in optical composting on our computerized aerial image effects camera, the optical printer and the studio. I was to also follow up my work at the laboratory, coordinating rushes, and getting various effects prints and negatives for visual effects optical composting.
