    I started at PDI as an assitant animator, and quickly moved my way up to senior animator. I have "lead animator" credits on my first four films: Antz, Shrek, Shrek 2 and Madagascar. I also spend many years as the studio's shader lead, when I wrote most of the shaders still in use today. After Madagascar I served for three years as the "Chief Architect for Global FX" which means I work with the heads of the fx departments and vfx supervisors on all our films, as well as with our R&D department on long-term issues.     I did software development while I was in grad school for LivePicture, which was also initially in Santa Cruz.

    It was an interesting company who had a nice 2d paint program which in many ways was superior to Adobe Photoshop at the time. But some of those features were made obsolete by faster computers with more RAM and the rest were implemented by Adobe, all the while LivePicture tried to turn itself into an "internet company". (Hey, it was 1996!)
