I’ve worked in branding and communication in the gaming industry for over 5 years and the passion I felt for it in the beginning is as strong as ever. My experience with gaming publishers, press publications and the gaming community has led me to realize that there is something even more important than passion: A firm understanding of the importance of the position I hold.
I started work for South Africa’s leading interactive video game distributor, Megarom Interactive, as a Marketing Coordinator and moved up to Marketing and PR Executive until I was promoted to PR & Promotions Manager.
During this time, I have played an important role in the planning and execution of the annual rAge Expo – the biggest technology expo for South African consumers and the highlight of the country’s gaming calendar.
Having negotiated the expansion of online presences, I know how to integrate all aspects of the industry into a strong community. From the opinions of gamers to tangible product presentation to developer’s ambitions, I am able to conceptualise experiential strategies to incorporate them all.
One of my strongest attributes is my creative problem solving ability – I am able to find out of the box solutions to any scenario. And I always do so by respecting the opinions, needs and goals of all parties involved.
Current publishers: Activision/Blizzard, 2K Games, Rockstar Games, Square-Enix, Codemasters, NC-Soft and Namco-Bandai

PR & Promotions Manager
Megarom Interactive
June 2011 - January 2015
With the recognition that I was able to execute projects of my own accord, I was promoted to this position specialising in PR.
As PR & Promotions Manager my main responsibility is to facilitate and maintain relationships between various stakeholders, including Megarom’s publishers, media and press, internal representatives and gamers. Effective communication is a vital aspect of this position - requiring me to broadcast brand and product information to local press while ensuring that PR strategies are kept in-line with international guidelines.
Adhering to internal budgets while making sure that campaigns are executed with maximum impact is a challenging aspect of this job, but one that I have managed successfully over the last three years.
This position at Megarom is public facing and I have spoken about titles on various media across multiple platforms. As part of this responsibility, I have also planned, executed and reported on events for the promotion of titles over a launch period.
My press management responsibilities include the selection of key press to cover specific titles for effective communication, the arrangement of press attendance at international events like E3 and Gamescom and the creation of informative presentations for publications and retail.
It has been essential that I understand the South African gaming market in order to tailor communications, promotions and products to its needs, which differ from those of international markets.
Marketing & PR Executive
Megarom Interactive
December 2009 - June 2011
As the PR Executive my role in the public eye became more official. I was in a better position to communicate with press and publishers to request assets and maintain coverage of our brands. As part of my role, I still assisted with marketing activities when necessary.
I still maintained responsibility of watching over rAge and began doing more regular interviews on TV and Radio for our various titles.
Marketing Coordinator
Megarom Interactive
July 2007 - December 2009
My key role in this position was to design, and localise advertising for our various print and online media. In my time in this position I overhauled the way in which assets were organised in the company - creating an easy to reference system where everything was organised for quick access.
My other major role was as the project manager overseeing the construction of our stand at rAge, while presenting our products on stage.
