WildBrain Studios is looking for a Set Extension Supervisor to join our team!


Reporting to the Head of CG, you’ll be responsible for defining, supervising, and delivering all set extension and digital matte painting work across the project. You will lead a small team of artists, collaborate with heads of department and the pipeline team to craft new workflows and build the tools that define our studio's output. This role requires both traditional artistic principles and knowledge of 2.5D/3D workflows.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with project leadership to define the artistic and technical approach for set extension and DMP work, ensuring consistency with the project’s visual style and storytelling goals
  • Design and implement robust Environment workflows
  • Oversee the artistic quality of all set extension deliverables, ensuring consistency in lighting, perspective, and style across the project
  • Identify bottlenecks in the current production process and develop automated or optimized solutions for asset management and rendering
  • Lead, train, and inspire a team of set extension artists, providing clear creative direction and technical guidance
  • Work closely with Asset, Layout, Animation and Lighting to ensure workflow consistency throughout the pipeline
  • Assist production in breaking down scripts, estimating bidding time for the department's tasks, and identifying potential technical risks early in pre-production


What You'll Bring

  • Extensive professional experience in Set Extension and/or Digital Matte Painting for feature animation, VFX, or high‑end animated series
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising the function of Set Extension and/or Digital Matte Painting
  • Proficiency in Krita, Nuke, Maya, Gaffer (Katana) and Houdini
  • Experience with complex 3D projections and multi-plane setups
  • Experience collaborating with proprietary tools or contributing to pipeline development
  • Strong Knowledge of the Lookdev pipeline
  • Expert understanding of interdepartmental workflows and dependencies and industry standards for best practices


This is a Union position and the terms and conditions of employment are covered by a collective agreement.


Pay Range

$2311 -$2500 CAD per week based on a 40-hour work week.

Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individual brings, with consideration of our internal equity.
