Hello!


We are seeking an experienced Unreal Engine Technical Director and Senior Unreal Generalist for a 6-minute cinematic 360° VR experience currently in development. This is a real-time, narrative-driven project built within Unreal Engine 5, with a lean, senior-level creative team.


Contract Duration: 8-12 Weeks

Location: Remote


Project Overview

  • 6-minute linear VR experience (360° equirectangular)
  • Cinematic, space-based environment
  • Unreal-first, real-time pipeline
  • Final delivery in 4K 360 format
  • Small, collaborative team


Please note: this is not a gameplay project. This is a cinematic, story-driven VR experience.


Responsibilities


Depending on role (TD or Generalist), responsibilities may include:

  • Environment assembly and world-building in Unreal
  • Sequencer-based animation and shot timing
  • Lighting and look development
  • Niagara FX integration
  • Performance profiling and optimization for 4K 360 rendering
  • Rendering and export of high-resolution master builds
  • Collaborating via Perforce-based version control
  • Working closely with Director and VFX Supervisor


Ideal Candidate


You are:

  • Senior level with proven Unreal cinematic experience
  • Highly comfortable working in Sequencer
  • Strong in lighting, environment polish, and scale
  • Experienced with real-time rendering for film or VR
  • Familiar with 360/equirectangular output workflows (a plus)
  • Technically confident and self-sufficient
  • Comfortable rendering locally on your own workstation (weekly kit fee provided)


Bonus:

  • Experience with 360/equirectangular workflows
  • Experience with Niagara FX systems
  • VR delivery pipeline familiarity
  • Strong sense of cinematic timing and scale


Technical Requirements

  • Workstation capable of 4K rendering (weekly kit fee provided)
  • Reliable internet for Perforce syncing
  • Comfortable working in a fully remote environment
  • Available for regular review sessions (PST-friendly preferred)


Schedule

  • 2 weeks pre-production testing (TD only)
  • 8–12 weeks production
  • Unreal picture lock before handoff to compositing

 

Compensation

  • Competitive freelance day rate
  • Remote contract
  • Paid weekly
