Senior Gameplay Animator
We're looking for a Senior Gameplay Animator to own gameplay animation for Scape and Gravity.
This is a highly autonomous role. You will be the primary animator on the project and responsible for creating the gameplay animations that define how the game feels to play.
All animations are hand-keyed. We are not looking for a cinematic animator or a motion capture specialist. We're looking for someone who understands gameplay feel, responsiveness, readability, timing, and player feedback, and who enjoys working closely with designers and engineers to make gameplay shine.
This is a long-term B2B contract position. The role is 100% remote, but the team works aligned with CET working hours, so availability during CET business hours is required.
You will work closely with designers, artists, engineers, and technical artists, owning gameplay animation from creation through implementation and iteration in Unity.
What you'll do
- Create high-quality keyframed gameplay animations
- Animate player movement, traversal, interactions, abilities, combat actions, and gameplay systems
- Create and maintain animation controllers, blend trees, and state machines in Unity
- Collaborate closely with game designers to improve gameplay feel and responsiveness
- Work directly with engineers to integrate and iterate on animations in-game
- Ensure animations communicate gameplay clearly and support player feedback
- Optimize animation assets and systems for real-time performance
- Work across a wide variety of gameplay needs, from characters to interactive world elements
- Help establish animation standards and workflows for Gravity
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of professional game animation experience
- Experience working on at least two shipped titles
- Strong portfolio showcasing gameplay animation work
- Excellent understanding of animation principles, timing, weight, readability, and responsiveness
- Proven experience creating keyframed gameplay animations
- Experience implementing and iterating on animations in Unity
- Experience collaborating closely with gameplay programmers and designers
- Comfortable owning animation as a discipline within a small development team
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of a significant animation scope
- Strong communication skills in English
Nice to have
- Experience with humanoid rigging
- Experience with realistic or semi-realistic animation styles
- Experience building animation controllers, blend trees, and state machines
- Experience supporting both PC and mobile platforms
- Technical animation or Tech Art experience
Recruitment Process
We're looking for a long-term animation partner, but we start with a paid production test.
Selected candidates will be invited to complete a paid animation assignment expected to take approximately one week. The test will consist of creating a gameplay animation based on a real Gravity use case, allowing both sides to evaluate collaboration, quality, and fit.
If the test is successful and both parties feel there is a strong fit, we will move forward with a long-term B2B contract.
What we offer
- 100% remote work
- Long-term contract opportunity
- A senior, collaborative, and highly experienced team
- Direct impact on the gameplay feel of Gravity
- Ownership of animation as a core discipline within the project
- Fast decision-making and minimal bureaucracy
- The opportunity to help shape a game from production through release
Location: Remote Working hours: CET-aligned Contract: B2B Contractor Hiring process: Paid one-week animation test followed by long-term contract discussions
