One Man Studio
is hiring
Gameplay Animator, 3D (Senior)
One Man Studio partners with major AAA teams to ship real-time game content. We’re fully remote, senior-leaning, and production-focused. No hobby projects, no hand-holding—just experienced developers delivering at a professional bar.
The Role
Create high-quality, game-ready character animation that holds up under real gameplay conditions. You’ll work within the animation team, reporting to the Animation Director, delivering animations that respect technical constraints while enhancing immersion and readability.
Experience with Creature animation, as well as bipedal animations is highly sought after.
This is not cinematic-only work. Your output must survive gameplay, state machines, and iteration.
What You’ll Do
Character Animation
- Produce high-quality 3D character animations for gameplay and in-engine use.
- Deliver clean, readable motion that supports gameplay clarity and responsiveness.
Unreal Integration
- Set up and maintain Animation Blueprints in Unreal Engine.
- Implement animations into state machines and troubleshoot integration issues.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the Animation Director and animation team.
- Communicate clearly with other disciplines (design, tech, art) to resolve issues early.
Quality Control
- Iterate on feedback without ego.
- Ensure animations meet visual, technical, and performance expectations.
Level Expectations
Senior
- Operates independently with minimal direction.
- Anticipates gameplay and technical constraints before they become problems.
- Provides clear feedback and guidance to less experienced animators.
- Delivers consistently shippable work.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience in character animation for games or interactive media.
- Strong command of Autodesk Maya and Keyframed animation.
- Proven experience animating for gameplay (not just reels).
- Solid understanding of rigging, skinning, and character setup.
- Hands-on experience working in Unreal Engine (Animation Blueprints required).
- Portfolio or demo reel showing real-time, game-ready animation.
If your reel is cinematic-only or avoids showing engine implementation, it won’t pass review.
Nice to Have
- Experience working on fantasy or stylized games.
- Familiarity with gameplay-driven animation systems.
- Prior experience in fully remote, multi-time-zone teams.
Portfolio
- Show game-relevant animation, not just pretty motion:
- Gameplay loops, locomotion, combat, or interaction.
- Clear demonstrations of weight, timing, and readability.
- Engine captures are strongly preferred.
If we can’t see how it works in-game, it doesn’t count.
What Success Looks Like
- Animations integrate cleanly into Unreal with minimal rework.
- Feedback cycles are short and productive.
- Your work improves gameplay feel, not just visual polish.
- You’re trusted to deliver without constant oversight.
Diversity
One Man Studio actively encourages applications from all backgrounds. Strong work and clear communication matter more than where you’re from.
