At ILM, FX Technical Directors are tasked with creating simulations, procedural animation, and rendering photorealistic effects elements for feature film, animation and episodic visual effects.


We seek an artist with great technical and problem-solving abilities, paired with a keen creative eye. The ideal person for this role thrives

in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and consistently strives to deliver work of the highest quality.


What you’ll do:

  • Create highly detailed effects layers using RBD, fluid, cloth, and particle simulations.
  • Set up and wrangle elements for large-scale effects-driven visual effects shots and animation.
  • Solve technical problems and debug simulation and rendering issues.
  • Render and light effects elements for use in final composites.
  • Pick up new techniques quickly and with ease.
  • Continuously raise the benchmark in terms of quality and efficiency.


What we’re looking for:

  • Experience as an effects technical director in feature film, animation and/or episodic TV, or other relevant experience in VFX, games or animation.
  • Ability to work with proficiency, energy, and passion within a team environment.
  • A proactive communicator.
  • Engages in the creative process with an inclusive and encouraging approach.
  • Demonstrates a great eye for aesthetics.
  • Shows interest and skill in solving technical and creative problems.
  • Good understanding of most aspects of Houdini and the VFX pipeline.
  • Linux proficiency.

This role is Hybrid, which means the employee will be encouraged to work 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasionally from home.
