The CG Supervisor is part of the leadership team on VFX projects, working closely with the VFX Supervisor and Producer. CG supervisors are responsible for all CG aspects of a VFX film, they lead the development of the CG methodologies for our projects, and supervise the execution of the CG work across all departments.


The CG Supervisor works closely with the Producer to facilitate the scheduling of artists and resources on their project and partners closely with the VFX Supervisor to provide technical and artistic notes, as well as direction to the VFX teams. 


The CG Supervisor is involved in client interactions in order to represent Framestore's capabilities, both technically and creatively. They drive the successful delivery of the CG work, work closely with Production, the Heads of Departments, the Department Management team, as well as the Technology and Render teams. 


What you’ll do:

  • Work with the VFX Supervisor to explore and create the look of a film to a client's requirements and specifications
  • Receive the client’s brief, discuss Framestore's capabilities and determine the CG methodologies in order to deliver the project
  • Provide clear direction to all CG departments, setting clear objectives and monitoring the process, progress and results working within the Framestore pipeline
  • Evaluate the creative requirements of a project, determine the technical implications and make high-level operational decisions (e.g. the balance between third party tools versus proprietary development and the selection of specific technical methodologies)
  • Raise issues with R&D and Pipeline teams in order to improve tools and functionality
  • Determine, modify and maintain the most effective and efficient technical approach and workflow possible
  • Conduct reviews as final quality control on all deliveries of shots prior to VFX Supervisor and client review
  • Eliminate potential problems in pipeline tools before they impact on production
  • Assist the HODs and Department Managers in the casting of 3D artists to ensure the right fit, skills and experience required for projects and teams
  • Work with the data, technology and pipeline teams to deliver an efficient project in terms of rendering, workflows and data management.
  • Problem solving when there are issues in departments, flagging areas where there are risks and issues and solving them with the support of the Head of CG
  • Understanding and supporting the Framestore global pipeline, attending global CG meetings and keeping up to date with company wide technological developments and approaches to CG.


Job requirements

What we’re looking for:

  • Extensive CG supervision experience in a similar or relevant position
  • Problem solving ability, stakeholder management, and excellent organisational skills with a delivery mindset
  • Ability to work well in a leadership team, to drive for results and and operate in a leadership role in the company
  • The ability to review other artists' work and ensure a high standard both artistically and technically
  • A thorough understanding of the entire visual effects process and the ability to interpret the artistic brief from the VFX Supervisor
  • Good technical understanding of CG pipelines and the ability to specify efficient workflows and identify additional tools
  • A good knowledge and experience of all areas of 3D (tracking, modeling, rigging, texturing, look development, animation, environments, creature FX, lighting and FX)
  • An understanding of the 2D pipeline
  • An excellent understanding of photography and film with strong artistic skills including knowledge of colour, lighting, perspective, scale and composition
  • Previous experience working within production leadership teams and meeting schedule and budget requirements
  • Excellent organisational, communication and project management skills
  • A working knowledge of the latest CG procedures and techniques
  • Proven creative ability and artistic flair
  • The ability to write code and assist in tool/pipeline R&D development
