Job Summary:

The Animation Supervisor collaborates closely with the Head(s) of Character Animation (HoCA) to uphold the quality and style of character animation, ensuring feedback is understood and being addressed in a timely manner. They are also responsible for the development of characters through close collaboration with various character departments and the art team.


What You’ll Do:

  • Work closely with other Animation Supervisors and HOCAs to maintain quality, style, and continuity of character animation across specified characters and sequences throughout pre‑production and production
  • During development, collaborate with Art and character teams to help define and build characters, focusing on functionality, personality, and appeal
  • Review progress of the animation team on a regular basis to ensure Animation Leadership notes are being addressed and the Director’s creative vision is being delivered
  • Be responsible for upholding quality and consistency across assigned characters and sequences
  • Effectively communicate shot statuses and deadlines to Production and facilitate when animation is ready to be presented for review
  • Perform hands‑on shot work to lead the animation team via example, especially on complex or key moments
  • Collaborate closely with various character departments and provide constructive feedback on animation‑related areas to ensure characters are consistent across the show and ready for production
  • Provide consistent feedback and mentoring to animators to ensure they’re meeting show expectations and personal goals, and communicate if performance expectations are not being met
  • Maintain a strong understanding of where shot progress stands and think creatively and strategically to help animators deliver shots on time and at a high quality


What You’ll Need:

  • At least 5 years of animation experience working in feature animated films or feature VFX films; previous leadership experience is a plus
  • A strong understanding of animation principles, and an excellent sense of story, pacing, continuity, and appeal
  • Proven team player who brings a high level of creative imagination and problem‑solving to the role, while also being self‑managed and self‑driven
  • Proficiency in Maya or equivalent software; technical skills are a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Ability to provide concise and honest constructive criticism, and to listen and be open to feedback
  • Openness to new workflows and toolsets, and willingness to share this knowledge with others
  • Ability to work to deadlines within a team environment
  • A willingness to always improve and to inspire those around you; consistently performs at a high level


 This role is based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hybrid Role (Minimum of 3 days a week in the office).
