3D Character Artist (Lead)

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Lead 3D Character Artist to join our nimble, creative game development team within Netflix Games Studio. In this role, you will take ownership of the character art pipeline from concept through delivery — shaping the look, quality, and technical execution of characters that define our games and delight global players. You’ll collaborate closely with art, design, and engineering to drive consistent artistic excellence and push creative boundaries.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute high-quality 3D character art from early prototypes through final in-engine implementation.
- Define and maintain artistic standards for character topology, anatomy, texturing, shading, and presentation.
- Partner with art directors, designers, and engineers to ensure seamless integration of characters into gameplay.
- Mentor and assist other artists; share best practices and establish efficient workflows.
- Help build and optimize character pipelines, tools, and documentation to support scalable production.
- Maintain consistent visual quality across all character assets and collaborate on style guides.
- Troubleshoot technical and artistic challenges as they arise during development.
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven track record as a 3D character artist with shipped titles (AAA, indie, or mobile).
- Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in 3D character modeling, texturing, and look development.
- Proficiency in industry standard tools such as Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, or equivalent.
- Solid understanding of character anatomy, materials, UV workflows, and game-ready asset creation.
- Experience in tech art, successfully bridging the gap between Art & Engineering.
- Strong experience integrating assets into engine (primarily Unreal).
- Excellent visual storytelling skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams.

- Familiarity with performance optimization for real-time applications.
- Experience with advanced character features like facial rigs, hair systems, or procedural workflows.
