Writing stories worth sharing
Long story short…
This is how conversations start. The conversation could be at the water cooler. Or on Twitter. But there is always a story behind it – a story worth sharing. I am a reporter, writer and editor of those stories.
I have immersed myself in illuminating national news stories, explaining the issues that drive communities and telling incredible stories that had remained just out of sight.
Whether it’s on paper, online or on-the-fly, I strive to help people understand the world around them with stories – long or short.
Reporter @ The Roanoke Times
September 2012 - Present
I cover breaking news and crime. I also write features on local topics of interest, such as runaway pythons. I started as an intern before being offered the position full-time.
Reporter @ Stry.us
May 2012 - August 2012
I wrote long-form stories on the people and issues that explored "An Interconnected America." I told the story of a polarizing local smoking ban, a photographer's final gift to his tornado-ravaged hometown and a baseball coach who blew up on YouTube.

City desk intern @ New York Post
June 2011 - August 2011
I covered daily news in New York City. My work focused on transit, courts and crime. I pitched and, using data, reported an exclusive story showing that the city's toll bridges lagged behind in terms of maintenance and safety.
Editor-in-chief @ Collegiate Times
August 2008 - May 2012
During my four years at the Collegiate Times, the last of which was spent as editor, I learned the ropes of virtually every aspect of a modern news media operation.
I led the 10,000-circulation college daily (4x per week) through a national news event on our campus, emphasizing quick delivery of news through social media. I also placed a focus on storytelling that created a better understanding of the issues in our community.
